Canine and Feline Cardiac Medications

Activity Description:
This course is designed for pharmacists and technicians providing care to veterinary patients. The course will cover common cardiac medications used in dogs and cats including side effects and special considerations. The medication description will be followed by a discussion of the compounding opportunities as well as special considerations when compounding these critical medications.

Pharmacist & Pharmacy Technician Learning Objectives:
1. List commonly used cardiac medications for cats and dogs.
2. Describe compounding opportunities for cardiac medications.
3. Explain areas of concern with compounding cardiac medications.

This is a knowledge-based CE activity and is targeted to pharmacists and technicians.

Lauren Forsythe, PharmD, DICVP, FSVHP
Dr. Forsythe graduated from the University of Findlay, College of Pharmacy in 2015. She then completed her veterinary pharmacy residency at Purdue’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. After completing her residency, she spent 3 years as a veterinary clinical pharmacist at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. She is now the pharmacy director at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
