Summary

Activity Description:
Statistics show that Texas has a higher share of adults reporting symptoms of anxiety and/or depressive disorder than the U.S. population at large. Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is a subset of major depressive disorder. This session will help attendees understand TRD's characteristics, prevalence, and emerging research for managing the condition via a variety of therapy options. Pharmacists will also learn strategies for effective patient counseling on TRD therapies.

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:
1. Describe treatment-resistant depression (TRD) as a subset of major depressive disorder, including diagnostic criteria, underlying pathophysiology, and prevalence in clinical practice.
2. Analyze guidelines and emerging research for the management of TRD, including pharmacological, non-pharmacological, and combination therapy options.
3. Employ strategies for effective patient counseling on recommended TRD therapies, addressing medication adherence, side effects, and patient-specific considerations to optimize treatment outcomes.

At the completion of this activity, the technician will be able to:
1. Describe treatment-resistant depression (TRD) as a subset of major depressive disorder, including diagnostic criteria, underlying pathophysiology, and prevalence in clinical practice.
2. List guidelines and emerging research for the management of TRD, including pharmacological, non-pharmacological, and combination therapy options.

Texas Pharmacy Association (154) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements.
