Summary

Activity Description:
Good mental health is good health! Pharmacists regularly encounter patients with a variety of mental health conditions and should be well-versed in treatments for common disorders. April is National Mental Health Awareness Month. In this session, you will learn about the prevalence of mental health conditions in both Texas and the United States, review current guidelines for medications, and understand practical aspects of dosing to help patients manage their conditions.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Define different mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and eating disorders.
2. Explore the current incidence and relevant statistics on mental health conditions in Texas and the U.S.
3. Review diagnosis criteria and the most up-to-date guidelines for using drugs of choice and second and third-line medications.
4. Understand and apply the practical aspects of initial dosing, maintenance dosing, and adjunct medications for anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and eating disorders.

At the completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:

Texas Pharmacy Association (154) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements.
