Activity Description:

Food security affects at least 4.2 million Texan households, uniquely impacting urban and rural communities. Access to nutritious foods plays a major role in the outcomes of patients with chronic disease. Pharmacists are the most accessible and trusted health care providers, with community pharmacies being a prime setting to identify and help address food insecurity. Walk away from this dynamic session better understanding the prevalence of food insecurity in Texas and how you as a pharmacy professional can help.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists and technicians will be able to:

  1. Define food insecurity and its relationship to chronic disease state management.
  2. Practice screening methods to identify individuals struggling with food insecurity.
  3. Summarize the importance of pharmacy’s role in identifying and addressing food insecurity in patients with chronic disease states.
  4. Differentiate potential resources and solutions for your community across individual, community, and government partners.
  5. Inspire change by constructing 1–2 best practices that you can implement into your community-centric organization to tackle food insecurity in your patients.


Texas Pharmacy Association (154) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements.
