Summary

Activity Description:

Although GLP-1 receptor agonists are currently popular as weight-loss drugs, their primary purpose is for treating patients with Type 2 Diabetes—a condition estimated to affect more than 2.5 million people in Texas. This session will help pharmacists understand how these medications benefit those with Type 2 Diabetes and which patients can benefit from the drugs. Additionally, learn about the various GLP-1 RAs on the market to help patients understand proper dosing and administration, potential side effects, and more.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Review the mechanism of action of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and their role in Type 2 Diabetes treatment.
2. Identify patient eligibility criteria for the use of GLP-1 RAs in Type 2 Diabetes.
3. Compare properties of currently available GLP-1 RAs on the market, including dosing, administration, glycemic and extra-glycemic effects, safety concerns, and management of side effects, as well as coverage options.

At the completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:
1. List glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and their role in Type 2 Diabetes treatment.

Texas Pharmacy Association (154) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements.
