Activity Description:

Nonprescription medicines may not be dispensed behind the pharmacy counter, but they account for a significant portion of the medications that many patients take on a regular basis. Because pharmacists are the most accessible and among the most trusted health care provides, they play an important role in self-care. This presentation will help pharmacists be up-to-date on the latest over-the-counter (OTC) medications to help them advise patients and answer questions they may have about these drugs.

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacists will be able to:
1. Describe the current use of nonprescription medicines in the United States.
2. Discuss the role pharmacists play in self-care.
3. Evaluate new nonprescription products.
4. Discuss current events relating to nonprescription products.

At the completion of this activity, the technicians will be able to:
1. Describe the current use of nonprescription medicines in the United States.
2. Discuss the role pharmacists play in self-care.
3. List new nonprescription products.
4. Discuss current events relating to nonprescription products.
